‘Take Y-break during shift’, advises government employees


Y-Break at Workplace Yoga: The Center has issued an order to adopt and promote a new protocol to its employees. In which the employees have been asked to take short Y-breaks (yoga breaks) to de-stress and freshen up. So that they can concentrate on work in a better way.

The Personnel Ministry, in an order, has asked all the Ministries/Departments of the Central Government to implement this new yoga guideline for people at workplace and promote yoga. According to the order, ‘Y-break’ at the workplace is being started by the Ministry of AYUSH with the aim of de-stressing and refreshing the personnel, so that they can concentrate better on work.

‘Y-Brake – Yoga on the Office Chair’

By ‘Y-break’ here it is meant to do yoga on your chair in the office. In the order, the central government has asked employees of all departments to do ‘Y-break – yoga on the office chair’ of short duration to relieve stress, freshen up and re-focus.

The response to this initiative is very encouraging. Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga and Ministry of AYUSH have come up with new facilities for those officers who cannot go out and practice yoga due to their busy schedule. This order was issued on 12 June (Monday).

Y-Breaks include these exercises

With this, officers can now do ‘Y-break at workplace yoga’ on the chair to rejuvenate themselves. Through the practice of yoga, they can benefit themselves by sitting on their office chair. Y-Break at Workplace has been introduced by the Ministry of AYUSH with an aim to de-stress, refresh and re-focus at the workplace.

The Y-break protocol consists of some light exercises, including ‘asanas’ (postures), ‘pranayama’ (breathing techniques) and ‘dhyana’ (meditation), which can be done after taking a break of a few minutes from work . It has been carefully developed by experts.
