Mediterranean Diet: If you have more vegetables and less processed food in your diet, then the biological age of your brain can be reduced. A research by Israel’s Negev University has found that a Mediterranean diet, meaning a diet rich in vegetables, seafood and whole grains, slows down the signs of rapid aging in the brain. Often 1 percent reduction in body weight has also been observed. A report published in Science Allers states that the veg diet has slowed down the aging of the brain by about 9 months compared to its biological age.
What does research say
The study mimicked the brains of 102 participants, scanning their brains before making lifestyle changes. This brain scan was taken after 18 months along with liver function, cholesterol level and body weight. Researchers analyzed liver function, cholesterol levels as well as blood biomarkers, fat and body mass index and monitored changes in their brains.
difference in biological age of the brain
Researchers found in this study that people who followed the diet, their weight was reduced by about 2.3 kg. At 1 percent weight loss, the brain of the participant looked 9 months less than the chronological age. In this study, researchers reported that signs of slow brain aging were associated with lower liver fat. However, these changes can only be for a short time. This study has been done regarding processed food, less consumption of sweets and liquid and healthy lifestyle in keeping the brain healthy. This suggests that the Mediterranean diet can slow down brain aging by about a year. That’s why lifestyle and food should be improved.
