West Bengal Panchayat Election Violence: In West Bengal on Thursday (June 15) violence took place at many places during the filing of nominations for the panchayat elections. Three persons were allegedly shot at in Uttar Dinajpur district, out of which one person died. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused other parties of indulging in violence during nominations for panchayat elections. The last day for filing nomination was today i.e. Thursday (June 15).
Panchayat elections will be held in Bengal on July 8. There has been an uproar in South 24 Parganas district on the last day of nomination. Apart from this, violence broke out at the Sainthia BDO office in Ahmedpur in Birbhum district. However, there is no information about any casualty from here. On the incident of shooting three persons in Uttar Dinajpur district, State Secretary of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Mohammad Salim claimed that all three persons are supporters of Left Front and Congress.
CPI (M) accuses TMC of violence
He said all three were shot at when they were going to the Chopra block office to file their nominations. An official said that after the incident, all the three injured were admitted to the district hospital, where one person died during treatment. He said that the condition of two injured is serious. CPI(M) state secretary Mohammad Salim alleged that the Trinamool Congress was behind the attack. At the same time, the ruling Trinamool Congress has rejected the allegations.
What did Mamta Banerjee say?
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the CPI (M) is involved in the violence over the nomination for the ISF Panchayat elections. Some opposition parties are trying to create disturbance during the nomination for Panchayat elections. He further said that our party has no involvement in the problems that happened in Islampur and other places.
TMC Chief said that we did not give ticket to those who did it, they asked us for ticket, but seeing their record, we did not give them ticket. We have given ticket after seeing the credibility, I have also asked the police to take strict action against them.
“Impossible to be Elected”
On the incidents of violence, BJP President of West Bengal Sukanta Majumdar said that there is a terrible situation in West Bengal, it is impossible to hold elections in this situation. Central force is needed. The State Election Commission is ignoring the court’s decision. The Election Commission does not even know which are the sensitive places in the state, whereas in reality bombings are taking place.
Order reserved on Shubhendu Adhikari’s petition
Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court has reserved orders on the petition filed by Bengal’s opposition leader and BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari regarding the Panchayat elections. The BJP leader had filed a PIL alleging violence in the nomination process for the election and failure to comply with the court’s previous order on the deployment of central forces in seven sensitive districts.
