Law Commission on UCC: There is a possibility of an uproar once again in the country regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) i.e. making the same law for all the citizens of the country. The Law Commission of India, which comes under the Law Ministry of India, has issued an official notification seeking suggestions from the common citizens, socio-religious organizations of the country on this topic and issue.

Under these suggestions, the commission has asked only one question, according to which there is any need for a uniform civil code in this country or not. If needed then why needed, and if not needed then why not needed. Any Indian citizen, socio-religious organizations, political parties and every other person who is a citizen of this country can send their views on this subject to the Legal Commission in writing.

What did the commission say about UCC four years ago?
Regarding the Uniform Civil Code, four years ago, the same Law Commission had said in one of its suggestions that the Uniform Civil Code is absolutely unnecessary for the country. But on Wednesday (June 14) he issued a gazette and sought suggestions from the people on this matter. The Law Commission’s notice states that the Ministry of Law and Justice had constituted the 22nd Law Commission for the UCC on June 17, 2016, and now they want people’s suggestions regarding the UCC.

According to Article 44 of the Constitution of India, under the Directive Principles of State Policy, it has been said that the State has the right to make a uniform civil code for the citizens of the country and make every possible effort to implement it. Many citizens of the country had also approached the Supreme Court against the UCC, but it had said that the Parliament of the country has the right to make laws in the country and it cannot interfere in the process.
