Know who is Nusrat Jahan Chowdhary? Whom America made the first Muslim woman federal judge


Nusrat Choudhury News: The US Senate on Thursday (June 15) approved the nomination of Nusrat Jahan Chaudhary, the first Muslim woman as a federal judge. Chaudhary, 46, will serve as a UFS court judge for the Eastern District of New York. She has been made the first Bangladeshi-American and female Muslim federal judge in the United States.

On Thursday, the Senate approved his appointment as a federal judge in a strong 50-49 decision, Reuters reported. Nusrat Jahan Chowdhury spent most of her professional career with the national ACLU, where she worked on issues of racial justice and national security. She was the deputy director of the organization’s racial justice program from 2018 to 2020.

US President nominated

According to the ACLU website, Nusrat helped defend a federal court ruling regarding the US government’s no-fly list practices. Not only this, Nusrat Chowdhary also challenged the New York Police Department’s discriminatory profiling of Muslims for surveillance. Significantly, on January 19, 2022, US President Joe Biden nominated Nusrat to serve as US District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, which has now been approved.

About Nusrat Chowdhary

In the year 1998, Nusrat Chowdhary graduated from Columbia University. After this, he obtained a post-graduation degree from the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs. Also, in the year 2006, she became a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School. Nusrat’s father has lived in Chicago and worked there as a physician for 40 years.
