Ramasimhan Aboobacker left BJP: Malayalam filmmaker and Sangh Parivar affiliate Ramsimhan Abubakar has announced to quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Ramsimhan had renounced Islam on December 2021 and changed his name from Ali Akbar to Ramsimhan Abubakar.
Ramasimhan was a member of the state committee of the BJP but had relinquished all organizational responsibilities in 2021. The ‘Puzha Mutal Puzhavare’ director said that there is no need to make much hue and cry over his decision as he is not going anywhere. He will only follow that ‘Dharma’ (Sanatan Dharma) which he has learnt.

Ramasimhan wrote on his Facebook post on Thursday (June 15), “Free from everything. Only – with religion.” The filmmaker is the third person from the film fraternity to quit the BJP in Kerala in the last two weeks. Earlier, Malayalam director Rajasenan and actor Bhiman Raghu had announced to leave BJP and join Marxist party.
The filmmaker said in another post on Friday (June 16) that he had resigned a few days ago, ‘just that it is now public’. The filmmaker said that he realized that if one wanted to follow the path of religion, then there should be no shackles, so the shackles were broken.

In October 2021, director-turned-politician filmmaker Ramasimhan resigned from all posts in the BJP, including state committee member. Because he was ‘pained’ by the organizational level action of the Kerala unit against a Muslim BJP leader in Kerala. He had said that he would remain a member of the BJP.
In his Facebook post, the filmmaker had said that it is difficult for a common man to understand the kind of harassment a Muslim person faces from his family and community while working with the BJP. The BJP has not reacted to these developments.
