Jammu and Kashmir News: In a major success, the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday (June 16) killed five terrorists in an encounter along the Line of Control (LOC) in Kupwara district of North Kashmir. These terrorists were trying to infiltrate into the Indian territory during the night.
The jawans recovered five AK series rifles, magazines and day and night goggles with Pakistani markings from the spot. This is the second major infiltration attempt in the Keran sector of LoC this month. Earlier on June 13, two terrorists were killed in a joint operation by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kupwara district.
Five foreign terrorists killed in encounter
The encounter began in the morning after security forces launched an operation based on a specific input in Jumagund area along the Line of Control in north Kashmir district. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said on Twitter, “Five foreign terrorists were killed in the encounter. Search is underway in the area.”
Speaking about the June 16 infiltration attempt, General Girish Kalia, GOC 28 Mountain Division (Vajra Division), said that despite the ceasefire between Indian and Pakistani troops on the LoC, Pakistani forces are actively helping terrorists cross over. is helping.
Inputs were received from intelligence agencies
General Girish Kalia said, ‘This operation clearly exposes the ugly face of war and the evil designs of terrorist groups, who are determined to disrupt peace in the valley. It also exposes the facade of false commitment to understanding the ceasefire between the two countries.
Briefing about the operation at the Jangli Brigade Headquarters in Kupwara, General Girish Kalia said that a large number of intelligence inputs were received from various intelligence agencies about the possible infiltration of terrorists from across the Line of Control.
The terrorists were heavily armed
On 15 June 2023, a specific intelligence was received from JKP about a possible infiltration along Jumagund Nar. A joint operation by the Indian Army and JKP was launched in the Keran sector on the night of 15/16 June, in which several ambushes were laid along the probable routes.
At around 1 am on the night of 16 June, the ambush teams spotted five heavily armed terrorists crossing the LoC. The terrorists were surrounded by the jawans along the border fence. Five infiltrating terrorists were eliminated in the gunfight.
‘Example of coordination between police and army’
But till now it is not clear to which organization the infiltrating terrorists belong. General Girish Kalia said, “The identity of the terrorists and their Tanzim affiliation is being ascertained.”
He said, “This successful intelligence-based operation is yet another example of the close coordination between the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police as both are determined to thwart the nefarious designs of the enemy to disrupt peace and harmony in Kashmir.” “.
