Biparjoy stayed in the ocean for a long time
According to the report of NDTV, on June 14, Biparjoy turned towards the east, before this the storm was moving northwards in the Arabian Sea for 8 consecutive days. Due to the temperature on the surface of the warm sea, this storm spent more time in the sea. Before this, no storm was seen in the Arabian Sea for such a long time. In the year 2019, Cyclone Kyar lasted for about 9 days. Now Biperjoy has broken its record.
impact of climate change
Talking to NDTV, Raghu Murtugudde, visiting professor at IIT Bombay, told that the reason for Biparjoy’s longevity is the warm water present in the Arabian Sea. This is also an example of how climate change is continuously affecting. This is helping the storms to last longer. He told that the cyclone started forming on the morning of June 6, when the water temperature in the Arabian Sea was much warmer than normal. The unusually warm waters of the Arabian Sea supercharged Cyclone Biperjoy twice. Due to which its speed kept increasing.
On reaching the coast of Gujarat, the speed of the storm was more than 100 km per hour. All kinds of preparations were done before this cyclone and people were removed from the coasts. About 1 lakh people were sent to safer places. This is the reason why the information about any casualty has not been revealed till now. Although about 22 people have been injured and many animals have died.
