Odisha Tragedy: It has been more than two weeks since the worst train accident of the century in Balasore, Odisha. Even today there is only one question on the lips of the people that how did the accident happen, which swallowed 291 lives. At the same time, a family is waiting for their son in Naharpada village of Cuttack district, about 150 km from the accident site. This is the village of Gunanidhi Mohanty, the driver of the Coromandel Express. According to the Hindustan Times report, he has not yet reached home since the accident.
Hindustan Times quoted Gunanidhi’s father, 80-year-old Bishnu Charan Mohanty, as saying that he has not spoken to his son since the accident. They are waiting for their son to come home. It is said that the villagers consider his son responsible for the accident, but how can they tell what happened that evening?
Loco pilot also got hurt
On June 2, the Coromandel Express going from Kharagpur to Bhubaneswar collided with a standing goods train on the loop line of Bahanga Bazar station in Balasore, Odisha. After the accident, some part of the Coromandel Express derailed and reached the other line and collided with the Howrah-Yesvantpur Express coming on it. Gunanidhi Mohanty was the loco pilot on the Coromandel Express at the time of the accident.
291 people had died and more than 1100 people were injured in the accident that took place at around 7 pm. Gunanidhi Mohanty is also among the injured. His three ribs are broken and there was a head injury. Mohanty was admitted to AMII Hospital in Bhubaneswar. Till date, Gunanidhi’s family is waiting for him to come home.

Hindustan Times quoted a doctor from the Medical Department of East Coast Railway as saying that Gunanidhi was discharged from the hospital about 4-5 days ago. AMRI Hospital also told HT that both the loco pilot and the assistant loco pilot were discharged 4-5 days back. At the same time, the family is still waiting for his arrival. His younger brother said that no one has told us about our brother. We think he is still in the hospital.
The ongoing CBI investigation of the accident
The CBI is probing the gruesome train accident that took place on June 2 in Balasore, Odisha. The CBI team has reached the Bahanga station and visited the accident site. Along with this, all the equipment and log books of that station have also been seized. Along with the CBI, the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) is also probing it.
