Eid-ul-Adha 2023: Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali, president of the Markji Chand Committee in Lucknow, said that the moon of the month of Zilhijj has been sighted. Bakrid will be celebrated across the country on June 29. The sighting of the Zilhijj moon in India, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand and other countries marks the beginning of the Islamic month of Zilhijj.

It is the twelfth and last month of the Islamic calendar. This month holds significance for Muslims all over the world because it is the month in which the Haj pilgrimage to Mecca takes place and Eid al-Azha i.e. Bakrid is celebrated on the tenth day of this month. The moon of Eid al-Adha was sighted in Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia on Sunday itself. Bakrid will be celebrated on June 28 in Gulf countries.

Bakrid is a very important festival in Muslim religion and it is called the festival of sacrifice. In Islam, sacrifice is given in the name of Allah on Bakrid. Muslims sacrifice a goat on this day after offering prayers. It is celebrated two months after the holy month of Ramadan. According to Islamic belief, Hazrat Ibrahim was going to sacrifice his son Hazrat Ismail on this day in the path of God, so Allah gave life to his son, in whose memory this festival is celebrated.
