The stock market closed down in the first trading session due to profit-booking in banking-FMCG stocks.


Stock Market Closing on 19th June 2023: The first trading day of the week has proved disappointing for the Indian stock market. One, after opening with a boom in the morning, both the major indices of the stock market failed to touch their historical highs. And later after profit booking, the market started trading in the red mark. At the end of today’s trading, the BSE Sensex closed down by 216 points at 63,168 and the National Stock Exchange’s Nifty closed down by 71 points at 18,755 points.

In today’s business, only the stock of Auto, Pharma, Healthcare sector has seen a boom. While the shares of Banking, IT, Oil & Gas, FMCG, Metals, Media, Energy, Infra Consumer Durables and Commodity sectors closed down. There was a slight rise in the index of small cap and mid cap sector shares. Out of 50 stocks of Nifty, 15 stocks closed with gains while 35 stocks closed with losses. Whereas, out of 30 Sensex stocks, 11 stocks closed with gains while 19 stocks closed down.

Looking at fast stocks, Bajaj Finance closed down by 2.24 per cent, Bajaj Finserv by 2.21 per cent, Tech Mahindra by 1.36 per cent, TCS by 1.08 per cent and Sun Pharma by 1.04 per cent while Kotak Mahindra Bank by 1.72 per cent, Axis Bank by 1.54 per cent, NTPC 1.35 per cent HUL closed down by 1.28 per cent.

BSE’s market cap decline

Due to the fall in the Indian stock market, the market cap record of companies listed on BSE has slipped down. The market cap of BSE has closed at Rs 292.58 lakh crore at the close of the market, while the market cap was Rs 292.73 lakh crore in the previous trading session. Investors lost Rs 15,000 crore in wealth in today’s trading session.
