The assembly seat of Madhya Pradesh where only ‘outsiders’ sail the BJP’s boat, this is political history

MP Assembly Election 2023: The planning of the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is known for its better strategies, has not been successful in the assembly of many districts of the state. One such assembly is the Sehore assembly of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s home district. Since the year 1980 in the Sehore assembly, the BJP has been able to sail through only on the basis of external candidates. Since the time of former Chief Minister Sunderlal Patwa, the original BJP MLA has not been able to become an MLA in Sehore Assembly.

Actually, Sehore assembly was formed 66 years ago i.e. in 1957. While the Bharatiya Janata Party has been doing politics in the name of BJP for 43 years. Earlier, MLAs were elected in Sehore assembly from Bharatiya Jana Sangh and Janata Party, but after the formation of BJP, the original BJP has been formed only once in Sehore assembly. Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Sunderlal Patwa was elected MLA from Sehore assembly in the year 1980, since then only leaders from Congress have crossed the BJP.

History of Sehore Assembly Constituency
For the first time after the formation of Sehore Legislative Assembly, Umrao Singh was elected MLA from Indian National Congress in 1957, after that Inayatullah Khan of Congress became MLA. In 1967, R Mewada from Bharatiya Jana Sangh, Aziz Qureshi from Indian National Congress in 1972, Savita Bajpai from Janata Party in 1977 became MLA. Whereas in the year 1980, after the formation of BJP, former Chief Minister Sunderlal Patwa was elected as MLA from Bharatiya Janata Party. Since then, the original BJP could not become an MLA in the Sehore assembly. Shankarlal Sabu became MLA from Congress in the year 1985. Madanlal Tyagi, who came to BJP from Congress in 1990, became an MLA.

In 1993, rebelling from Congress, independent Ramesh Saxena was elected MLA. Ramesh Saxena became MLA from BJP in 1998 and he remained MLA from BJP till 2013. In the elections held in the year 2013, after rebelling from the Congress, Sudesh Rai contested as an independent and defeated BJP’s Usha Ramesh Saxena. Presently Sudesh Rai is the only MLA from BJP.

Do not trust the original BJP
Let us tell you that there are many old families of BJP in Sehore assembly, who have contributed significantly in building BJP in the initial phase. These old clans of BJP’s Atal Bihari Vajpayee used to be very close, but time changed and gradually Sehore BJP forgot its old clans. This is the reason why during the Sehore assembly elections, except the original BJP, BJP expresses confidence in the candidates who have come from outside.
