Reports were surfacing that Sehwag was approached by the BCCI to take over as chief selector. Now Sehwag has put an end to all these news with his statement.

There is a vacancy in the selection committee of the Indian team after Chetan Sharma resigned from the post of chief selector in February 2023. Now BCCI has started seeking applications to fill this post. Meanwhile, Sehwag refused to apply for the post on the question of becoming the chief selector in a statement given to the Times of India. Sehwag has denied the recent reports that he was not offered any offer for the post of Chief Selector by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

After the resignation of Chetan Sharma from the post of Chief Selector, former Indian player Shiv Sundar Das is handling the post in the interim. Besides Das, the other members of the selection committee are S Sarath, Subroto Banerjee and Salil Ankola.

This criteria to become a selector

According to the notice issued by the BCCI to become a selector, the applicant applying for this post must have played at least 30 first-class matches or 7 Test matches or 10 ODIs. Apart from this, that person should have completed 5 years of retirement from all formats of cricket.
