Prime Minister Narendra Modi Right now PM Modi is on US trip and during this trip the script of a big war is being prepared. During the American visit, the Prime Minister also met Elon Musk, the world’s richest person. Elon Musk told after the meeting that he can come to India next year. Along with this, he also indicated the entry of Tesla in India and Starlink in India.
Starlink has suffered a setback
India’s experience has not been good for Elon Musk’s companies so far. The tussle with Tesla is well known, but the road for Starlink is not going to be easy either. Glimpses of this have been seen earlier when Starlink started advance booking of its Satellite Internet service in India as well. At that time, the government had asked Starlink to return the advance to the customers immediately.
Jio’s dominance in the Indian market
Now this satellite internet service is going to be the reason for the conflict between Musk and Mukesh Ambani, the richest person in India and Asia. Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio currently dominates the Indian telecom sector. Jio currently has 439 million telecom users, which is the highest in India. Similarly, Reliance Jio has 8 million wired broadband connections, which is 25 percent of the market share.
This is the logic of Musk’s Starlink
Starlink was shocked last time because it started advance booking without taking license. Actually India’s telecom market is somewhat different from the world. Spectrum is auctioned for telecom services in India. Musk’s company Starlink is lobbying for the Indian government to give licenses without auctioning the spectrum as per the global trend. Starlink argues that spectrum is a natural resource and should be shared by all companies.
