Delhi Ordinance: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress to sort out their differences over the Delhi ordinance issue over tea later. He reminded them that the meeting of opposition parties in Patna was not the appropriate forum to discuss such an issue. Sources gave this information.

Sources said that Banerjee herself was on a day’s fast and wanted that the discussion on the ordinance issue should not be derailed. Banerjee intervened when AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal insisted that the Congress declare after the meeting that it would support us on the issue, he said.

What did Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi say?
Sources said that during the meeting, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in his speech extended in-principle support to AAP on the issue and said that his party would not support any unconstitutional act. He told that Kharge said that his party has made a system to discuss the issue and will make an announcement at an appropriate time.

Sources said that although Kejriwal did not threaten to walk out of the meeting during this period. All the opposition members present there took the side of Congress and said that the stand of the party is logical on this issue.

Sources said that Rahul Gandhi did not raise the issue of ordinance during his speech. According to sources, Rahul Gandhi insisted that he had come to the meeting with an open mind and had erased any previous memory of likes or dislikes for the parties present here.

Rahul Gandhi said that he and his party would do anything to maintain opposition unity. He suggested that to defeat the BJP, its financial, institutional and constitutional monopoly would have to be broken.

The source said, “Incidentally, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was sitting at almost equal distance from Kejriwal and Rahul Gandhi. When the issue was discussed, he intervened and asked them to eat tea biscuits. Mamta Banerjee said that many problems can be solved over a cup of good tea and biscuits.

In her address during the meeting, Banerjee said that it is important that all parties ensure that they support the Congress in places where it is strong. He said that BJP is not fighting with the opposition but with the people of India.

Rashtriya Janata Dal President Lalu Prasad Yadav was warmly welcomed by the leaders of the opposition parties and he gave his speech as the second speaker in the meeting. He suggested that in the 2024 general elections, the battle of the opposition should be fought under the leadership of the single largest party in each state. Requesting the Congress to have a big heart, Lalu Yadav praised the spirit of the party for finally speaking after listening to everyone.

What did Arvind Kejriwal say?
Kejriwal said that the main mantra of the year 2024 elections should be on “nation first, party second”. He said that when the party will leave seats for its opposition partner, then their victory should be in the form of a united front. He said that this is not the time for expansion of parties and the focus should not only be on elections but there should also be agreement on issues.
