Before PM Modi’s address to the joint session in Parliament here, two women MPs of America created a controversy by talking about boycott. In fact, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib alleged that the Modi government has suppressed minorities in India.
Democratic MP Ilhan Omar tweeted that Prime Minister Modi’s government has repressed religious minorities, encouraged violent Hindu nationalist groups, and brazenly targeted journalists/human rights advocates. In such a situation, I will boycott Modi’s speech.

At the same time, Rashida Tlaib tweeted that PM Modi has a ‘long history of human rights abuses, anti-democratic actions, targeting Muslims and religious minorities and censoring journalists. This is totally unacceptable. I will boycott Modi’s joint address in Parliament.
Significantly, Umar had made headlines last year by visiting Pakistan. Upon reaching Pakistan, Umar met with the leaders there, not only that, he also visited Occupied Kashmir (PoK). On which India had expressed strong displeasure. After which America had to give clarification. However, this is not the first time that this Muslim leader has opposed India.

Ilhan Omar was born in Somalia, but her family immigrated to America in 1990. Due to continuous civil war there, his family had left the country. Ilhan made her career in politics in America. In 2016, Ilhan Omar reached the House of Representatives of Minnesota by winning the election. In 2019, Ilhan was elected Member of Parliament from Minnesota. Ilhan Omar is the first African refugee to become a member of the US Congress.
Know who is Rashida Tlaib
Rashida Tlaib, a Palestinian American citizen of origin, is one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress, along with Ilhan Omar (D-MN). The 46-year-old female parliamentarian was born in Detroit, USA. She is the eldest of her 14 siblings. Tlaib started his political career in 2004. In 2008, Tlaib won the election of representative in the US state. She was the first Muslim woman to reach this position. From 2009 to 2014, she lived in the Michigan House. In the year 2021, Tlaib also participated in a seminar organized on Kashmir Harmony Day. Rashida Tlaib has always been known for her anti-India propaganda.
