Why didn’t America ban India on buying S-400 from Russia? Pentagon replied

US On India’s S-400 Deal: During PM Modi’s visit to America, the question of India’s purchase of arms from Russia also arose. America imposes its harsh laws on countries buying heavy weapons from Russia, but when India bought S-400 air defense system from Russia, America exempted it from its CAATSA (Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act) law.

The US Defense Department Pentagon has now responded to the question of giving exemption to India on purchasing S-400. It has been said on behalf of the Pentagon that America will benefit from the exemption of India from CAATSA restrictions, America does not want any reduction in India’s security. Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said about India, “We encourage all our partners and allies to avoid dealings with Russia. This is something that we have continued to repeat with India and others apart from Turkey.” On comparing India’s purchase of S-400 with Turkey, he said that these two cases are different. Turkey is a part of NATO, yet it had made this deal with Russia.

According to the US Department of Defense, Pentagon’s Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina said, ‘I think India and Turkey are two very different countries and two different cases. When it comes to India, we are also confident in the diversification of their equipment and our ability to integrate with them, whereas this is not the case with Turkey. Sabrina said that we again welcome Modi’s visit to America. Two weeks ago our Secretary Austin visited India and met his counterpart there, then it was emphasized that we will increase defense cooperation with India. In addition, we will continue to urge our allies and partners around the world to avoid dealings with Russia.
