Wagner Group Rebellion: There was a coup attempt in the world’s largest country Russia. There, the chief of the Wagner Group of mercenaries fighting in Ukraine rebelled against Putin. Yevgeny Prigogine, Chief of the Wagner Army, marched towards Moscow, the capital of Russia, yesterday, 24 June. He claimed that many cities are under his control. In view of the march of the Wagner Army towards the capital, the security forces of the Russian government had made posts with armored vehicles and Russian soldiers on its southern edge. Also Red Square was closed.
The news of Wagner Army’s mutiny against Putin is in discussion all over the world. For several hours, thousands of soldiers of Yevgeny Prigogine kept marching towards Moscow, the capital of Russia, then it was believed that there would be a coup in Russia. However, late night news came that Wagner’s army has now stopped its march. According to Russia 24 news channel, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko spoke to the Chief of the Wagner Army. Later, the Chief of the Wagner Army ordered his fighters to return to the field camps in Ukraine. APN News reported that Yevgeny Prigogine, Chief of the Wagner Army confirmed this in a statement, he said that after talking to the President of Belarus, we have decided to call back our fighters.
On the other hand, Dmitry S. Peskov, spokesman for the Kremlin, the center of Russian power, said on Saturday that the Wagner Army, which rebelled, would not be prosecuted. According to the news agency ANI, the Kremlin spokesperson has denied the news of prosecution against Wagner Army. Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the nation yesterday after the news of Wagner’s revolt broke out. Putin said in the address- ‘Wagner has stabbed in the back. They have cheated the people of the country. This is a challenge to our army. We will protect the countrymen at any cost.” After Putin’s address, tanks and security forces were deployed in Russia’s capital Moscow.
