Uttarakhand Monsoon: Heavy rains started in Uttarakhand with the onset of monsoon. Two people were killed and three others injured on Sunday in incidents related to heavy rains. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the State Disaster Control Room to take stock of the rain situation across the state. Landslide occurred after heavy rains in Rudraprayag district. The occupant of the vehicle died after being hit by the debris. According to the police, the accident took place on the motorway going to Gaurikund, about one kilometer before the shuttle bridge near Sonprayag. The person sitting in the vehicle was crushed to death due to a sudden landslide from the hill.
Heavy rains started with the knock of monsoon
The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Anil Bisht, a resident of Guptkashi in Rudraprayag district. After getting the information, the relief and rescue teams reached the spot and took Anil Bisht, who was in the vehicle, out of the debris and took him to the government hospital in Sonprayag. Doctors declared Anil Bisht dead. After clearing the debris, other vehicles parked in the area have been moved to safer places as a precautionary measure. Police said that two vehicles were damaged due to the debris. However, no one was present inside the other vehicle.
Vehicle hit by landslide debris
In another incident, a youth engaged in transplanting was killed and three others were injured. The accident occurred due to lightning in Kandiyal village of Purola tehsil of Uttarkashi district. The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Abhishek. According to the information received from the State Emergency Operation Center, the condition of two of the three injured youths remains critical. Both have been sent to Dehradun for better treatment. After heavy rains at many places, roads have been blocked due to landslides at many places in the state.
The road was also closed for traffic in Chamoli district. The reason for the rain in Kanchanganga on the Badrinath National Highway was debris. However, the road was opened for traffic after a few hours. Due to heavy rains at some places in Haridwar, water logging created a flood-like situation. Many rivers including the Ganges are in spate. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inquired from the officials in the State Disaster Control Room about the rain situation, water-logging and damages.
He ordered the officials from the districts forecasting heavy rains to keep contact, dialogue and coordination. He asked the District Magistrates to be alert for disaster relief and rescue operations and to make adequate arrangements for health workers along with SDRF. Dhami also inquired about the current status of Char Dham located in the high Himalayan region in view of heavy rains and observed Kedarnath Dham online. The Chief Minister told reporters that an appeal has been made to the devotees to take information about the weather before Chardham Yatra. He said, “I appeal to stop the journey due to bad weather and follow the forecast of the Meteorological Department.”
