Suryakumar Yadav made his Test debut against Australia this year. Although he got a chance to bat in only 1 innings. After this, Surya is still waiting for his second chance in Test format. He was definitely included in the list of reserve players in the WTC final. Although he was dropped from the team for the Test series played on the West Indies tour, Surya definitely managed to make his place in the team for the ODI series.
Now a BCCI official told Inside Sport in a statement that if Surya was in the Test team, he would have played us before Rituraj and Yashasvi and the team wanted to try a new player. However, this does not mean that Surya is out of our Test plan. He is a very important player for us keeping in mind the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup. We want him to focus only on limited overs cricket right now. When the time comes, he will get another chance in the Test.
Suryakumar’s age also became a big reason for being out of the test
The focus of the Indian team is now on doing better in the next World Test Championship. Regarding this, the BCCI official further said in his statement that Surya is currently one of the best batsmen in world cricket, but at the same time he has also turned 32 years old. Because of this, we have to plan keeping the future in mind. That’s why we had to look towards players like Yashasvi and Rituraj. If both of them are able to prove themselves, then it will be a very good thing for Indian cricket.
