Will electricity be expensive in Delhi? Delhi government issued a statement after the decision of DERC

Electricity Rate in Delhi: Delhi Government’s statement regarding the increase in electricity rates by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has come to the fore. According to the Delhi government, this increase will not directly affect the consumers. The Delhi government says that under the power purchase agreement, the prices of electricity keep on fluctuating. Electricity becomes cheaper in winter, while the price increases slightly in summer. In every quarterly review, there is a marginal increase or decrease in the prices under the power purchase agreement.

The price of electricity depends on the prices of coal and gas.

The Delhi government said in its statement that the prices are reduced and increased during the review every quarter. This increase will not have a direct effect on the customers. This is a normal quarterly review process. Their prices depend on the prices of coal and gas. In fact, Bombay Suburban Electric Supply, a Reliance Energy company, had applied to the DERC regarding the purchase of electricity in Delhi.

Delhi government has given permission to increase the rate

The Delhi Electricity Commission, while approving the application of BSES, gave permission to increase the rate on the basis of Power Purchase Agreement. However, the final decision was to be taken by the Delhi government on whether these increased electricity prices would be included in the consumer’s bill or not. After which the Delhi government said in its statement that the direct effect of this increase will not directly increase on the customers.

It is being told that the big reason behind this new tariff of electricity prices is solar energy. Electricity is produced only from solar energy. That’s why power companies will buy and supply electricity from solar energy. Even before this, when the rate of power purchase agreement has been increased, the Delhi government had asked the electricity companies to bear the expenses themselves and there was no difference in the bills of the people.
