ODI World Cup 2023, Round-robin Format: The International Cricket Council has announced the schedule of the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 to be held in India. On October 5, the first match of this mega event will be played between England and New Zealand. A total of 10 teams will participate in the ODI World Cup 2023, among which matches will be played under the round robin format. All the teams will get a chance to play a total of 9 matches.

For the third time in the history of ODI World Cup, the tournament will be played in round robin format. Earlier, for the first time in the year 1992, World Cup matches were organized in this format, while for the second time in the year 2019, matches were played under this format in the ODI World.

What is round robin format after all,

All the 10 teams participating in the upcoming ODI World Cup to be played in the round robin format will get a chance to play against each other. In such a situation, all the teams will play a total of 9 matches. In this way, the teams which win more matches and make their place in the top-4, will directly qualify for the semi-finals.

After this, the knockout matches will start. The number-1 team in the points table will face number-4, while number-2 will have a semi-final match with number-3. The winning teams will secure their place in the final match.

Due to the tournament being played under this format, there is a tough competition between all the teams. With each match being important for the team, there is also an exciting battle to make it to the top-4.

India’s performance in round robin format has been like this

The performance of the Indian team in the ODI World Cup played in the round-robin format has not been good. In the year 1992, when the tournament was played for the first time in this format, India could not even make it to the top-4. On the other hand, in the year 2019, when the ODI World Cup was played in the round robin format for the second time, the journey of the Indian team ended with a defeat against New Zealand in the semi-final match.
