Surguja: Snakebite incidents increased in the rain, woman’s condition critical due to snake bite, child’s death


Surguja News: Snakebite incidents have increased in Surguja district as soon as the rains started. Two days ago, a ten-year-old girl had died of snakebite in village Bansa, adjacent to Ambikapur City. While a 25-year-old woman has been admitted to the hospital after her condition became critical due to snakebite.

According to the information received in connection with the incident, Parma Manjhi’s wife Sukhlal Manjhi, resident of village Bardand, slept on the ground on Sunday (June 25) night. That’s why the poisonous snake bit him late at night. On being referred from the nearest health center, he has been admitted to the hospital in Ambikapur. Where his condition remains worrisome. It is being told that due to lack of anti-snake venom medicines in health centers and primary health centers, patients are being referred to Ambikapur. According to the health department, most of the incidents of snakebite happen while sleeping on the ground.

The situation worsens in the wake of bushfires

It is being told that in the remote rural areas of the division including Surguja, due to lack of awareness, most of the people start getting exorcised, due to which instead of improving the condition of the patient, it becomes more serious. Due to delay in proper treatment, sometimes patients also die.

What did the health department say?
Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. PS Sisodia said that the incidents of snakebite are increasing every year during the rainy season. In view of this, sufficient quantity of injections have been made available to the health staff of Community Health Centers, Primary Health Center, training them to give dose of anti-snake venom. He told that many times the condition of the patients becomes serious due to delay in reaching the hospital. In such a situation, patients are referred to the community and primary health centers after first aid.
