Heavy decline in liquor retail business in Delhi, claims CIABC

Delhi News: In the country’s capital Delhi, a huge decline has been registered in the retail business of liquor as compared to the first quarter of the year 2022 i.e. April-June. This has been revealed by a report prepared by the Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies. According to the report, the excise policy was implemented in Delhi in the first quarter of 2022, which has now been cancelled.

Delhi maintained an annual growth rate of 36 per cent despite all the hurdles related to excise policy changes and non-availability of many brands, the CIABC report said. According to CIABC data, liquor sales in the first quarter of 2022 are expected to reach 263 million. A huge percentage increase was registered. According to the latest figures, a negative growth of 14 percent was recorded in January-March 2023.

Let us tell you that after the Delhi New Excise Policy came into controversy, CM Arvind Kejriwal’s government withdrew it in July 2022 after Lieutenant Governor Vinay Saxena recommended a CBI inquiry into alleged irregularities in its implementation. After that this policy ended on August 31 last year. The old policy under which Delhi government corporations opened liquor shops in the city was implemented on 1 September 2022. In this case, the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia in February 2023 after a thorough investigation. Since then he is in Tihar Jail. Despite many efforts, he has not got bail. Delhi High Court has refused to grant bail to Manish Sisodia. The High Court had said that the investigation related to the Delhi liquor scam is at a critical juncture. In such a situation, there is a possibility of the case being affected if Manish Sisodia gets bail.
