On the demand of banning ‘Adipurush’, the court said – Why only Hindus are always tested

Adipurush Movie Controversy: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the manner in which key characters from the epic Ramayana have been portrayed in the controversial film ‘Adipurush’. The court said, “Hindus are tolerant but why are they tested every time.”

The bench refused to accept the argument that the film’s ‘disclaimer’ (declaration) said that the film was not Ramayana. A bench of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan and Justice Shri Prakash Singh said, “When the filmmaker has shown Lord Ram, Sita, Laxman, Hanuman, Ravana and Lanka, how will he satisfy people with a disclaimer that the story is not taken from Ramayana.”

While ordering the matter to be listed for re-hearing on Wednesday, the Bench asked the Deputy Solicitor General to take instructions from the Central Government and the Censor Board and inform what action they can take in the matter. The court said in oral remarks, “Hindus are tolerant but why every time their tolerance is tested, they are civilized then is it right to suppress them? ,

The bench, after hearing the arguments of Advocate Ranjana Agnihotri, appearing for the petitioner, made the oral observation that the way the film has been made, ”it will not only hurt the sentiments of those who worship Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, Lord Hanuman etc. Worship, but the way the characters of Ramayana have been portrayed can also create disharmony in the society.

The court said that “it is good that the present dispute is about such a religion, whose followers have not harmed the public order.” We should be thankful to them, some people had gone to get the theaters closed but they also only got the halls closed, they could have done more.
