A large section of Chhattisgarh is against the implementation of UCC. The main reason for this is that most of the population here is of tribals. According to the 2011 census, 32 percent of the population of Chhattisgarh belongs to the tribal community. According to the census of that time, the population of the state was 2 crore 55 lakhs, in which the population of more than 78 lakhs is from the tribal community. In the last more than 12 years i.e. in 2023, this figure would have increased a lot. In such a situation, questions are also arising in the minds of the tribals living in Chhattisgarh that after the implementation of UCC, what will be the effect on their living conditions and traditional laws. A few days ago, a large section of tribals in the neighboring state of Jharkhand also took to the streets to protest against this.

He said that we have to take care of everyone’s feelings. There are tribals in Chhattisgarh, they have their own rules and traditions, many castes have their own traditions. Somewhere in the constitution also the answer is recognized. We have to see everyone’s feelings.

How much impact will UCC have on tribals?

How will the Uniform Civil Code affect tribals? Tribal affairs expert Murli Manohar Dewangan was discussed on this issue and he said that this law will not affect the tribals. Citing the constitution, he said that it has been kept in mind that it will be implemented leaving the special area. He said that according to Article 44(1-2) of the Indian Constitution, their customary laws would be applicable as before. This has already been included in the PESA Act, in which the decision of the Gram Sabha will be supreme.
