Rahul Gandhi Manipur Visit: Amidst the ongoing violence in Manipur, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived on a two-day visit to the state on Thursday (June 29). There was a lot of uproar after Rahul Gandhi reached Manipur. When he was going to Churachandpur to visit the relief camps, the police stopped his convoy. A few hours later, Rahul Gandhi visited the relief camp in Churachandpur. Meanwhile, the Congress has alleged that the BJP-led government is trying to sabotage Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the state. Know the big things related to Manipur violence.
1. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reached Imphal on Thursday morning. He is on a two-day tour of the state. During this, apart from visiting relief camps, he will also hold talks with representatives of civil society in Imphal and Churachandpur. When Rahul Gandhi was going to Churachandpur to visit the relief camps, his convoy was stopped by the police in Bishnupur.
2. There was a lot of ruckus while stopping the convoy of former Congress MP. After which the Congress leader returned to Imphal. From here he went to Churachandpur by helicopter. Rahul Gandhi used the helicopter provided by the state government to go to Churachandpur. An airport source told news agency PTI that police and administration officials were also with him in the helicopter.
3. Rahul Gandhi also ate food with the children at the relief camp set up in a school in Churachandpur. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi tweeted that I have come to listen to all my brothers and sisters of Manipur. People from all communities are very welcoming and loving. It is very unfortunate that the government is stopping me. Manipur needs healing. Peace should be our only priority.
4. Bishnupur SP Heisnam Balram Singh said that looking at the ground situation, we stopped him (Rahul Gandhi) from proceeding further and advised him to go to Churachandpur by helicopter. There is a possibility of grenade attack on VIPs on their way to hilly areas. Keeping in mind their safety, we stopped them from moving forward. After stopping Rahul Gandhi’s convoy, there was a clash between police and Congress workers in Bishnupur. Party workers and local people protested strongly. The Congress alleged that the order to stop Rahul Gandhi’s convoy came from Chief Minister N Biren Singh as everyone was welcoming him.
5. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge tweeted that destructive governments with double engines are using autocratic methods to block Rahul Gandhi’s reach to the people. This is completely unacceptable and in violation of all constitutional and democratic norms. He was going to meet the victims in relief camps, PM Modi has not bothered to break his silence on Manipur. They have left the state to its own devices. Manipur needs peace, not conflict.
6. Targeting PM Modi, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh said that It is very unfortunate that the Modi government is preventing Rahul Gandhi from visiting relief camps and interacting with people outside Imphal. His two-day visit to Manipur is in line with the spirit of Bharat Jodo Yatra. The Prime Minister may choose to neither say nor do anything about Manipur for himself, but why is Rahul Gandhi’s efforts to listen to all sections of Manipuri society and understand their pain and suffering being obstructed.
7. Manipur Congress President Keesham Meghchandra said that Rahul Gandhi’s Moirang tour has been cancelled. The administration did not allow them to come to Moirang either by road or by air. He could meet the violence affected people only in Churachandpur. He is returning to Imphal and will rest there for the night. It is not clear whether he will be able to continue with his visits scheduled for tomorrow. Former CM of Manipur and Congress leader Okram Ibobi Singh said that what will be the fate of our democracy due to such dictatorship. This is a sample of it. This is dictatorship. We are not coming here to politicize. We have only come to meet the suffering people.
8. The firing also happened a few hours before Rahul Gandhi reached Manipur. Unidentified gunmen fired at Harothel village in Kangpokpi district on Thursday morning. The army issued a statement saying that the security forces retaliated and the firing has now stopped. The gunmen started firing without any provocation at around quarter to six in the morning. One person died in this incident. More than 100 people have died in ethnic violence that broke out in early May between the Meitei and Kuki communities over reservation in Manipur.
9. The allegations of the Congress have also been retaliated by the BJP. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said that the insistence with which Rahul Gandhi has gone to Manipur is not appropriate. Sensitivity is more important than stubbornness. When the situation in Manipur is like this, there should be some sensitivity, not stubbornness. We are a democratic country, no one stopped Rahul Gandhi from going to Manipur, but the administration in the state said that there have been many protests amid the news of Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Manipur. Manipur’s situation is due to the issue of heritage, in which the Congress has played a significant role.
10. The BJP leader said that the All Manipur Students’ Union, during a press conference yesterday, demanded a boycott of Rahul Gandhi’s visit and listed those legacy issues. Many civil society organizations had also given a call that Rahul Gandhi should not ignite sparks by coming to Manipur. Rahul Gandhi’s behavior is extremely irresponsible. I have always said that Rahul Gandhi and responsibility never go together.
