French President cancels Germany trip, serious allegations against police, ruckus not stopping


France Riots: In France, a 17-year-old boy was shot dead by a police officer. After which people’s anger flared up all over France and protests against the police are going on everywhere. A youth named Nahel M was shot dead by a policeman at a traffic stop on Tuesday (June 27). Meanwhile, German officials were quoted as saying that due to unrest in France, President Emmanuel Macron has postponed the state visit to Germany.

The incident sparked riots in the country, where police have for years been accused of targeting and isolating minorities. The deployment of more than 40 thousand police is also not being successful in stopping the protests. The French government said that 1,311 people were arrested during demonstrations on the fourth night of Nahel’s death.

Nahel grew up in the place called Pablo Picasso in Nanterre, a suburb of Paris that is home to many immigrants. Nahel’s mother, who is originally from Algeria, raised her child alone as a single parent. The news started spreading rapidly in France that his son was shot dead by police at a traffic stop while driving a car.

Although the officials remained silent on Nahel’s ethnic talk till that time, but this thing spread rapidly in France. The first reaction to the incident came from North Africa, where rap stars in the southern port city of Marseille, home to immigrants, took a jibe at it. And soon after this, football superstar Killian Mbappe and actor Omar Sy also supported it by tweeting.

Public service completely closed in France
The echo of Nahel’s death was heard from France to Algeria, although it is not officially clear whether Nahel had dual citizenship here or not. The Algerian Foreign Ministry expressed its deep condolences over the events, and called Nahel an Algerian “national” who was to be protected by France.

France’s interior ministry says it has ordered the complete shutdown of all public bus and tram services before sunset, as the government grapples with riots sparked by the fatal police shooting of a 17-year-old boy. The ministry said Interior Minister Gerald Der Manin issued the order on Friday after attending a crisis meeting led by French President Macron.
