Eagle gets special duty during Wimbledon, read what works during the match

Who Is Rufus The Hawk Eagle: The world’s oldest and prestigious tennis tournament Wimbledon is going to start from July 3 this time. This will be the 136th edition of this 146-year-old Grand Slam. Special preparations are also made to organize this. Apart from deploying police and guards for the security of the court, special arrangements are made to protect the court from pigeons and other birds flying in the sky. For this an eagle bird is also deployed.

In this tournament played on a grass court, Rufus the Hawk, a Harris Hawk, a special hawk, is put on duty to protect the court from pigeons. This eagle has been brought up by the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Hawk is considered an important member of the organization of Wimbledon. Before Rufus, this work was done by Hamish Baz.

Rufus has been guarding the Wimbledon courts for almost 15 years, starting when he was 16 weeks old. Rufus constantly flies in the sky during the match and does not allow pigeons to wander around the court.

The tournament was started in the year 1877 on the grass court.

Wimbledon started on the grass court in the year 1877 and since then in the history of 146 it is being organized on the grass court only. It is the only tournament in the 4 Grand Slams that is played on grass courts. In the remaining 3 Grand Slams, the Australian Open and the US Open are played on hard courts while the French Open is played on clay courts. This time the prize money has also been increased by 11 percent in Wimbledon, in which both the singles champions will get around Rs 24.49 crore. While the runner up will get around Rs 12.25 crore.
