Vegetable Price Hike: On Tuesday (July 4), the Congress taunted the central government for increasing the prices of other vegetables including tomatoes and lemons. Congress said that you can now give vegetables as a gift because its price is increasing day by day.
On behalf of the Congress, the spokesperson of the party, Supriya Shrinate said while addressing a press conference, “I have brought a gift basket. It has one kg tomato, one kg ginger, one kg garlic and one kg green chillies. The basket contains goods worth Rs.1070. In such a situation, otherwise do not spend money. You can give it as a gift during the wedding season.
Shrinet said that tomatoes are being sold at Rs 150 to 160 per kg in the country. Ginger is getting 400 kilos. The shopkeeper who used to give chili for free, is getting that chili at Rs.400 per kg.
He said that the government knows everything. This is not happening only because of the rains, the government is not able to handle the situation if the transport cost has increased.
What did Congress say?
Shrinet claimed that Arhar dal which used to get Rs 72 to 75 a kg earlier is now getting 160 to 170 a kg. The price of urad dal has increased by Rs 30 in a month. He further said that cumin is also getting Rs.800 per kg. There has been an increase of Rs 200 per kg in a month. In such a situation, along with vegetables and pulses, the prices of spices have also increased.
The prices of vegetables are running like a rocket in the country.

Shrinet said that lemon is available at Rs 400 per kg, green chillies at Rs 400 per kg, ginger at Rs 400 per kg, coriander at Rs 200 per kg, garlic at Rs 130 per kg, parwal at Rs 80 per kg, colocasia at Rs 80 per kg and okra at Rs 70 per kg.
