Supporters of Ajit Pawar-Chhagan Bhujbal occupied NCP office in Nashik, what did the police do?

Maharashtra Politics Crisis: Supporters of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders Ajit Pawar and Chhagan Bhujbal occupied the city office of the party in Maharashtra’s Nashik city on Tuesday. After this, leaders and workers loyal to party chief Sharad Pawar demonstrated. Bhujbal, MLA from Yeola in Nashik district, joined the BJP-Shiv Sena government in the state on Sunday (July 2) along with Ajit Pawar and seven other MLAs. This led to a split in the Sharad Pawar-led party.

What did the police do?

Bhujbal’s supporters captured the NCP office ‘Rashtrawadi Bhavan’ located in Mumbai Naka area in the morning. In the afternoon, Sharad Pawar’s supporters tried to enter the office and a scuffle broke out between the two groups. Police stopped Sharad Pawar’s supporters, including district NCP chief Kondaji Awhad, former city unit president Gajanan Shelar, from entering the office.

‘Sharad Pawar has founded NCP’

Shelar said that this is the office of the nationalist establishment. Bhujbal has nothing to do with it. All are our leaders, but Sharad Pawar has founded NCP and it is his party. We will capture the office within a day. Awhad claimed that he has the right to hold meetings in the office as he is the district head of the NCP.

‘Everyone is a supporter of Sharad Pawar’

Dilip Khaire, a Bhujbal supporter, said they would not allow the other group to enter the office. He accused Awhad of attending the swearing-in ceremony on Sunday (04 June) but later changed his stand. City NCP chief Ravindra Pagar said everyone is a supporter of Sharad Pawar and he would attend the meeting called by Bhujbal. He said that everyone should maintain peace. Sharad Pawar’s supporters also staged a protest outside the office but later they left.
