Tomato Rates: Retail prices of tomatoes have touched Rs 140 per kg in the Delhi-NCR region due to problems in supply from producing centers due to rains all over the country. The wholesale prices of tomatoes in Azadpur Mandi, Asia’s largest wholesale fruit and vegetable market, ranged between Rs 60-120 per kg on Monday, depending on the quality, and the general public is in distress due to this.
Online retailers are also selling tomatoes up to Rs 140 per kg
Mother Dairy’s Safal sales center was selling tomatoes at Rs 99 per kg on Sunday. An online retail seller was selling tomato hybrid at Rs 140 per kg on Monday. The price of tomato on BigBasket was Rs 105-110 per kg. Tomato prices have skyrocketed not only in Delhi-NCR but also in other parts of the country. The government says that the increase in the price of tomatoes is due to ‘weather’. Prices are usually high at this time. Tomato prices will come down in the next 15 days.
What did the president of Azadpur Tomato Association say
Ashok Kaushik, president of the Azadpur Tomato Association, said, “The prices of tomatoes have increased due to disruption in supply from major producing centers due to rains.” Kaushik is also a member of the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) Azadpur.
Supply mainly affected due to rain
Due to the rains, the supply of tomatoes from the neighboring states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan has ended quickly. Now Himachal Pradesh is the sole supplier for Delhi-NCR region. He said that it is raining heavily in this hilly state as well, affecting harvesting and transportation. He said that the traders are not getting adequate supply of tomatoes from the producing centers of Maharashtra and Karnataka, because of which the prices are running high due to rains.
Tomato prices expected to come down in next 15 days
Ashok Kaushik also said, “The price of a 25 kg crate is between Rs 2400 to Rs 3000. The price of tomato per kg at the growing centers is Rs 100-120 per kg. Traders find it difficult to bring this commodity to Delhi at such high rates.” Can’t take the risk.” He said that the supply of tomato is expected to improve in the Delhi-NCR region in the next 15 days after the rains improve in the southern states. Till then the prices of tomatoes will remain high.
