In such a situation, instead of buying tomatoes, common people have started buying small packets of tomato puree. A pack of 200 grams of Tomato Puree is available for Rs.25 only. Ginger is available up to Rs 400 per kg. So instead of buying ginger, we are buying small packs of its paste so that savings can be made. A big jump is being seen in the prices of cumin and the price has gone up from Rs.550 to Rs.800 per kg. In such a situation, starting from small packets of cumin powder, they are buying cumin powder in small quantities from the open market.

At the same time, FMCG companies are selling their goods by reducing the weight of small packets or pouches at the old price or by increasing the price, for which political attacks are also taking place. Supriya Shrinet, chairperson of Congress’s social media digital platforms, said that people’s pockets are being robbed secretly. Prices are being increased by reducing the weight of essential goods.

Increased demand for small packages

According to a report by Bijom, the demand for small packages has increased tremendously in May 2023. In May 2023, there has been a jump of 23 per cent in the demand for small packets of branded commodities as compared to May 2022. In order to save their hard earned money and savings from inflation, consumers have to turn towards small packets and pouches so that they can save themselves from back-breaking inflation.
