Rajasthan Elections 2023: Top Congress leaders will discuss the party’s strategy and poll preparations in Rajasthan on July 6, as well as resolve the tussle between Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his arch-rival Sachin Pilot, which is proving to be a major problem for the party . Since assembly elections are to be held in the state this year, the agreement between the two is being considered very important.
The Congress has called a meeting of senior party leaders associated with the state on Thursday to take stock of the preparations for the Rajasthan assembly elections and chalk out a strategy. Sources say that through this meeting, an attempt will also be made to resolve the dispute between Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot.
Gehlot-Pilot’s tussle spells trouble for the party
Kharge has been chairing key strategy meetings with leaders of poll-bound states. He has already held separate meetings with the leaders of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. The Gehlot-Pilot tussle is making matters more complicated for the party for the upcoming assembly elections.
Sources said that in this meeting attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former President Rahul Gandhi, Pilot, party’s state in-charge Sukhjinder Randhawa, State Congress Committee President Govind Singh Dotasara and some other Congress leaders from Rajasthan will be present. Chief Minister Gehlot will participate in this meeting online from Jaipur itself due to leg injury.
During his ‘Jan Sangharsh Yatra’, Pilot had placed three demands before the state government, including the reorganization of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC), compensation to the youth affected by the government exam paper leak and the corruption charges against the previous Vasundhara Raje government. High level investigation was involved.
Interestingly, two days before the strategy meeting, Gehlot said on Tuesday that the Rajasthan government would bring a bill in the next assembly session to increase the quantum of punishment for those involved in the recruitment exam paper leak from 10 years to life imprisonment.
Agreed to fight the upcoming assembly elections unitedly
After the meetings, the party had said that Gehlot and Pilot have agreed to fight the upcoming assembly polls together and left all issues to be resolved by the party high command. The Gehlot-Pilot tussle is making matters more complicated for the party for the upcoming assembly elections.
Last month, after a marathon meeting of party president Mallikarjun Kharge and former president Rahul Gandhi with Gehlot and Pilot, the Congress had said that the two leaders have agreed to fight the upcoming assembly elections unitedly and the issues between them will be resolved by the high command. Party affairs have been made more complicated. Gehlot and Pilot have been engaged in a struggle for power since the Congress formed the government in the state in 2018. In 2020, Pilot led a rebellion against the Gehlot government after which he was removed as the party’s state unit president.
