Manipur Violence: Violent incidents are still coming to the fore in some areas of Manipur. On Wednesday (05 July), a mob set ablaze the house of an Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) jawan in Thoubal district as he foiled an attempt by rioters to loot weapons.
According to PTI, the rioters tried to loot weapons in Samaram on Tuesday (July 04). Even before this, a mob of 700-800 people had tried to loot weapons from the IRB camp at Wangbal, four kilometers away. During this, a 27-year-old man was killed in a clash with the security forces. The deceased was identified as Ronaldo.
Security officials said that the jawan did his duty well and did not allow the rioters to loot the police arms store. At the same time, regarding the incident that happened today, the officials told that the jawan whose house was set on fire was part of the IRB unit.
‘Armed mob opened fire’
Officials said that the security forces tried to control the situation on Tuesday (04 July) and first used tear gas shells and rubber bullets. The armed mob started firing after which retaliatory action was taken. He said that the mob had also blocked the roads leading to the camp at many places.
Assam Rifles vehicle set on fire
Officials said that the mob also attacked a team of Assam Rifles which was coming to the camp. They fired at Assam Rifles personnel and set their vehicle on fire, in which a jawan was also injured. The young man has a bullet in his leg. However, now his condition is being told better than before.
Increased ban on internet services
The Manipur government said that to bring the situation under control, the ban on internet services in the state has been extended by five days. Now internet services will be banned till 10th July. Authorities banned internet services in the state for the first time since clashes broke out between ethnic communities on May 3. It has been extended from time to time.
