First IIT Campus To Be Set Outside India: Complete preparations have been made to open the first IIT campus outside the country i.e. on foreign soil. The name of the country which has been chosen for this work is Zanzibar-Tanzania. The first Indian Institute of Technology i.e. IIT campus will be opened here outside India. For this, an MoU has also been signed between the two countries. Let us tell you that a recommendation was made in this regard in the National Education Policy ie NEP and it was said that prestigious institutions like IITs should be established outside the country as well. At present, the way has been cleared for the opening of the first institute.
AMU signed between the two countries
According to PTI, an agreement has been signed between the two countries i.e. India and Tanzania to open IIT campus. India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Zanzibar’s President Dr. Hussain Ali Mivinyi were present on the occasion.
According to the statement of the ministry, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on July 5, 2023 between the Ministry of Education of India, IIT Madras and the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training of Tanzania to set up the campus of IIT Madras in Zanzibar-Tanzania.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Jaishankar tweeted and wrote that, ‘IIT Madras witnessed the signing of the agreement to set up the Zanzibar campus. Gratitude for the presence of President Dr. Hussain Ali Mivinyi, other ministers on this occasion.
According to the ministry’s statement, the MoU was signed by the High Commissioner of India to Tanzania, Vinay Srikant Pradhan, Dean (Global Liaison), IIT Madras, Prof. Raghunathan Rangaswamy and Khalid Masood Wazir, Acting Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training of Tanzania. There is a plan to launch the program here by October 2023.
