Rahul Gandhi Defamation Case: The Gujarat High Court will pronounce its verdict on Friday (July 7) against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s conviction in a defamation case related to Modi’s surname. He was convicted by the Surat court and sentenced to two years on March 23. Against this, Rahul Gandhi had approached the High Court.

After being convicted, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from the membership of the Lok Sabha. The Congress had targeted the central government and the BJP regarding this. After being disqualified from membership, Rahul Gandhi had said in Wayanad, Kerala that the central government is working to suppress his voice, but he is not afraid.

What have Congress and BJP been saying?
Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Rahul Gandhi, had said in April during a hearing in the Gujarat High Court that many people, including Modh and Teli, write the Modi surname in Gujarat. It is not right to link Rahul’s statement with everyone. The petitioner is saying that 13 crore people of the country have been defamed. That in itself is a joke.

On the other hand, BJP President JP Nadda and other leaders of the party had claimed on the whole issue that Rahul Gandhi had insulted the Other Backward Classes (OBC).

What did Rahul Gandhi say?
Rahul Gandhi in 2019 Lok Sabha Elections In his campaign speech, he had allegedly said, “Why is Modi the surname of all thieves?” BJP leader Purnesh Modi had filed a defamation case against him in Surat court. He had said that by saying this, Rahul Gandhi has defamed the people of Modi surname.
