Bengal State Election Commissioner (SEC) Rajeev Sinha on Saturday promised to look into complaints of vote-tampering and take a decision on re-polling in violence-hit places after receiving reports from supervisors and returning officers.

Decision on re-polling will be on July 9

Sinha says that the decision on re-polling will be taken on Sunday (July 9) when the Supervisor and Returning Officer will scrutinize and review the polling process. He said, “I have been getting information about violence and clashes since last night. Calls on these incidents were made directly to me and to the phone numbers of the control room.”

Most violent incidents in these districts

“On Saturday, maximum number of such incidents were reported from three to four districts like North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and Murshidabad district,” Sinha told news agency PTI. Incidents were also involved. Tomorrow there will be a detailed investigation in the matter. Re-polling will be held in those booths where maximum violence took place and those where polling was not held or stopped.

He said that immediately after the SEC received any information about any untoward incident on Saturday (July 8), the District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police and CAP were informed. Talking about the number of deaths, Sinha said, “Officially there were three deaths during Saturday’s polling.”
