Supreme Court Fines Ford India: The Supreme Court, while hearing a case, has directed Ford India Limited to pay Rs 42 lakh to a customer. This case pertains to Ford Titanium Endeavor 3.4L car. Kar Malik had filed a case against the company regarding the manufacturing defect of the car. The complainant had lodged a complaint with the Punjab State Consumer Commission regarding several defects including oil leakage since the very beginning of buying the car.
The state commission then ordered the company to replace the engine free of cost and pay Rs 2,000 per day to the complainant. The National Commission also confirmed this order, after which Ford India appealed to the Supreme Court.
Ford changed the engine of the car
Pending an appeal to the Supreme Court, Ford replaced the car’s engine with the Le. However, even after changing the engine, the car owner said that the car was not roadworthy. It had several issues which made the vehicle difficult to drive.
Court gave this order
Keeping these facts in mind, Justice Suryakant and Dipankar Datta’s bench directed Ford to pay Rs 42 lakh to the car owner. Since Rs 6 lakh had already been paid by the company after the order of the State Commission. So now Ford had to pay the remaining Rs 36 lakh. Apart from this, he was also directed to pay Rs 87,000 towards the insurance of the car.
Customer has to return the car
On receiving the compensation amount, the car owner will have to hand over the vehicle to the company. Let us tell you that in the month of March, Ford Motor had recalled many of its cars. According to a report by NHTSA, Ford Motor has recalled them in its recall to replace the airbag inflators of Ford Ranger model cars. These cars were manufactured between 2004-2006.
