Big Update on West Bengal Panchayat Elections!  Voting will be held again in these districts, order of the State Election Commission


WB Panchayat Elections 2023 Re-Polling: There will be re-polling for the Panchayat elections in some districts of West Bengal. The State Election Commission on Sunday (July 9) said that re-polling will be held in Purulia, Birbhum, Jalpaiguri and South 24 Parganas for the panchayat elections. The Bengal State Election Commission has ordered re-polling on Monday (July 10) at the booths where polling was declared invalid. These include 604 booths where re-voting will take place.

Voting was held on Saturday for the three-tier Panchayat elections for Zilla Parishads, Panchayat Samitis and Gram Panchayats in West Bengal. 15 people have died in the violence during this period. According to the news agency PTI, the death toll has increased to 15 after the death of two injured people, the body of one more person was recovered from South 24 Parganas.

Officials said elections were held on 73,887 seats under the state’s three-tier Panchayati Raj system, for which 2.06 lakh candidates were in the fray. As per the provisional figures, 66.28 per cent polling was recorded. The State Election Commission (SEC) said it has sought a detailed report from the district magistrates on the deaths during the panchayat polls.

BJP supporters protest in front of the State Election Commission office in Kolkata on Sunday against the violence in the panchayat elections. BJP workers raised slogans against the alleged inability of the commission to conduct elections peacefully. Blaming the State Election Commissioner for poll-related deaths, the BJP on Saturday wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking his intervention in restoring democracy in the state.

Meanwhile, Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose has gone to New Delhi on Sunday. Where he is likely to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and submit a report on the violence that took place during the Panchayat elections in the state. The official told that CV Bose can meet Amit Shah on Monday morning.
