In 1972, he was made the branch manager of Mirzapur. Earlier, from 1969 to 1971, he was the organizational secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad Gorakhpur, the student wing of the RSS.

Prediction made about Rajnath Singh came true

In 1974, Rajnath Singh was appointed the secretary of the Mirzapur unit of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the predecessor of the BJP. In 1975, at the age of 24, he became the District President of Jansangh. During those years, Rajnath Singh was influenced by the Jayaprakash Narayan movement of the 1970s.

In 1975 there was emergency in the country. During Emergency, Rajnath Singh was in a jail in UP. An anecdote of that time is very famous. The year was 1976. During the Emergency, another senior RSS leader Ram Prakash Gupta was also in jail along with Rajnath Singh. One day he made a prediction by looking at the lines on Rajnath Singh’s hand.

He said that one day you will become a very big leader. When asked how big a leader he would become, he got the answer as big as the CM of UP. Destiny turned out to be such that the same Ram Prakash Gupta, who had predicted, was removed from the post of CM of UP on October 28, 2000 and Rajnath Singh was made the Chief Minister. Till March 8, 2002, Rajnath Singh was the CM of UP for almost two years.

Opponents started saying ‘Ghoshananath’

While being the Chief Minister of UP, Rajnath Singh made many announcements and promises. He also made announcements for the welfare of the most backward. The 2002 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections were fought under the leadership of Rajnath Singh but the BJP lost. Then there was no justification for the announcements and promises of Rajnath Singh. They remained stuck. During that time his opponents started calling him ‘Ghoshananath’.

Born in a farmer’s family, lecturer in college

Rajnath Singh was born in Babhora village of Chakia tehsil of Chandauli district (then Varanasi) of Uttar Pradesh in a Rajput family, which was associated with agriculture. His father’s name is Rambadan Singh and mother’s name is Gujarati Devi. He has a brother named Jaipal Singh.

Rajnath Singh’s primary education was from the village school and he obtained a master’s degree in Physics from Gorakhpur University. He was a college lecturer before becoming active in politics.

He was a lecturer in Physics at KB Post Graduate College, Mirzapur. Rajnath Singh’s wife’s name is Savitri Singh. He has two sons and a daughter. One of his sons, Pankaj Singh, is currently an MLA from Noida and is the Vice President of Uttar Pradesh BJP.

entry into electoral politics

After the release of Rajnath Singh, who went to jail during the Emergency, he joined the Janata Party started by Jayaprakash Narayan and contested the assembly elections from Mirzapur in 1977. He got victory and for the first time he became MLA from Mirzapur. He joined BJP in 1980.

In 1984, he became the State President of BJP’s Yuva Morcha, National General Secretary in 1986 and National President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in 1988. He was also elected to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.

Rajnath Singh in politics

At present Rajnath Singh, the Deputy Leader of the House in the Lok Sabha, was the Home Minister of the country before the Defense Minister. He has been the national president of BJP twice. In the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, he was the Minister of Road Transport and Highways and then the Minister of Agriculture.

In the first term of the Modi government, he was the home minister of the country. Twice he was MLA from Haidargarh assembly seat of UP. In 2009, he was elected Lok Sabha MP from Ghaziabad and in 2014 and 2019 from Lucknow. He has also been a Rajya Sabha MP from 1994 to 2001 and again from 2002 to 2008.
