Pakistan-China Relation: Pakistan’s Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal claimed that China had warned the then government of Pakistan against any new experiment ahead of the 2018 general elections. The minister made this claim during a program of a private news channel Geo TV on Saturday (July 8) night.

During the program, Iqbal targeted the then Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government of Imran Khan for sabotaging the US$60 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

China had warned Pakistan
Geo TV quoted a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader as saying that China had diplomatically tried to convey (a message) to the then government to avoid any new experiment, as the new experiment Damage to CPEC. The planning minister said that China had asked the government not to interfere in the elections as any experiment of change would not be beneficial for Pakistan and would destroy the CPEC.

Responding to a question, the minister stressed the need for continuity of policies for the progress and development of the country. Iqbal accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf of maligning the CPEC project and said that allegations of corruption against the project were leveled and the western media exaggerated the controversial statements made by leaders of Imran Khan’s party- Mounted and showed.

He said that Murad Sayeed, who was a minister during the Imran Khan-led government, had made baseless allegations of corruption against him related to CPEC.
