Tomato Price Increased: The price of tomato in the country is at a high level. Its cost is more than 150 rupees in some parts. Although in some places the price of tomato is below 100 rupees. It is believed that the prices of tomatoes may increase further. Along with this, the prices of some other vegetables are also expected to increase. Vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, cucumber, leafy greens etc. are likely to become costlier.
Why the price of these vegetables can increase
The government has hoped that due to the arrival of tomatoes and other vegetables from hilly areas like Himachal Pradesh, there will be a sharp drop in the prices. On the other hand, instead of reducing the prices of some vegetables, they can remain stable, but this does not seem to be happening now. Because heavy rains are continuing in areas like Himachal Pradesh, due to which harvesting of vegetables and transportation of goods is getting hampered. In such a situation, vegetables are reaching the market in very less quantity.
The prices of these vegetables may also increase
According to the Economic Times report, SK Singh, director of the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru, said that the obstruction has occurred due to record rains in the North Indian hills. In such a situation, the prices of vegetables coming from there may increase further, which include vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, cucumber, leafy greens and capsicum. SK Singh said that due to waterlogging, virus and wilt will rot the crop, due to which the prices may increase further.
Singh said that Himachal Pradesh is the main supplier of cabbage, cauliflower and capsicum, which supplies from Delhi to other states. For this reason, people are preferring to eat pulses instead of vegetables, due to which the price of vegetables may increase further. At the same time, due to the closure of many major roads due to landslides, the transportation of fruits and vegetables from the mountains to the plains has stopped.
How much can the prices increase
Delhi’s Azadpur wholesale tomato trader Amit Malik said that there is a fear that wholesale tomato prices may increase by Rs 140-150 per kg in a week as local supplies from north Indian states will be less due to heavy rains. Although at present the wholesale price of tomato is Rs 40 to 110 per kg, while the price of tomato in the retail market is Rs 100-160 per kg.
