Tax collection of Rs 5.17 lakh crore till July 9, 2023, 14.6% more than last year

The Finance Ministry has released this data of Direct Tax Collection.

According to the Finance Ministry, progress is being seen in direct tax collection. And till July 9, the direct tax collection has been Rs 5.17 lakh crore, which is 14.65 percent more than the same period last year. Excluding refunds, the direct tax collection has been a total of Rs 4.75 lakh crore, which is 15.87 percent more than the previous year. Direct tax collection for a little more than a quarter is 26.05 per cent of the budget estimates of direct tax collection for 2023-24.

The Finance Ministry said that from April 1, 2023 to July 9, 2023, a refund of Rs 42,000 crore has been issued to taxpayers, which is 2.55 percent more than the refund issued in the same period last year. Income tax return filing season is going on. In such a situation, the Income Tax Department has told taxpayers by tweeting why it is necessary to file income tax return as soon as possible to travel abroad with ease.

The Income Tax Department has requested taxpayers to file income tax returns for assessment year 20232-4 before July 31, 2023.
