Uniform Civil Code: In the midst of the debate going on across the country regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), an organization affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has given suggestions. The All India Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram has supported the suggestion to keep tribals out of the purview of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). This suggestion was given by Sushil Modi, chairman of the parliamentary committee. It has also been suggested to the Law Commission on behalf of this organization that it should not be in any hurry in submitting its report.
Suggestions to tribal organizations as well
It has been said on behalf of the organization that before handing over the report, efforts should be made to understand the practices and traditions of the tribal communities from its prominent members and organizations. The Akhil Bhartiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), also appealed to Scheduled Tribes and members of their organizations not to be “misguided” by discussions on social media if they have any concerns about the proposed UCC. Instead, place your views on this issue before the Law Commission.
Meeting chaired by Sushil Modi
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sushil Kumar Modi, in a recent meeting of a parliamentary committee chaired by him, advocated keeping tribals of the Northeast and other regions out of its ambit in the event of a Uniform Civil Code, while some opposition Members of parties questioned the Law Commission’s move to initiate consultations on the contentious issue.

Satyendra Singh, vice-president of Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, said in a statement, “We welcome the role of Sushil Kumar Modi, head of the parliamentary committee, in keeping the Scheduled Tribes out of this law.” Especially a lot of discussion is going on on social media, due to which common people are getting confused. He said, “The tribal society is also not untouched by this. Some people with vested interests are also misleading the tribal society.” Singh said that in such a situation, Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram wants to warn the tribal society, especially their socio-cultural organizations and the educated class, that they should not be misled by anyone.
