Rain wreaks havoc in Haryana, ‘red alert’ rivers in spate in 3 districts, water enters villages


Haryana Weather Update: Rain continued to wreak havoc in Haryana for the third consecutive day. The rain has started wreaking havoc. Due to the worsening of the situation in 6 districts, more than 600 villages have been waterlogged. 9 people have died due to rain-related accidents. Ambala district is said to be the most affected by the rains. It has rained about 451 mm in 3 days, due to which 40 percent of the area is submerged. Army’s help is being taken to evacuate the people.

In Ambala, people have camped on the roofs of their houses. Teams of NDRF, SDRF and Police have taken more than 2 thousand people to safe places. People have been shifted to safer places in Panchkula. Army personnel rescued 730 girl students trapped in Chaman Vatika School in Ambala.

Tangri, Markanda and Ghaggar river in spate due to rain
The Tangri, Markanda and Ghaggar rivers are in spate due to the rains. More than 400 people trapped in houses built on the banks of Tangri river in Ambala were rescued and sent to a safe place. At the same time, 5 villages of Indri adjacent to Yamuna were filled with water. As the water of the Ghaggar river reaches the danger mark, 18 villages are under threat of flood. Officers, patwaris and village secretaries have been fielded in Kurukshetra. People of many villages of Yamuna Nagar have been sent to safer places in tractor trolleys.

All the rivers including Yamuna are flowing above the danger mark. The village is affected by its grip. Lakhs of acres of crops have been submerged. The crisis of electricity, water and food and drink has arisen in front of thousands of people. Water from Tangri, Markanda and Ghaggar rivers has entered more than 400 villages. In Panipat also the water level of Yamuna river has reached above the danger mark.

CM called an emergency meeting
On Monday, CM Manohar Lal Khattar called a meeting of officials to review the deteriorating conditions due to rain. Instructions have been given to the district deputy commissioners on behalf of the CM, schools can be closed if needed. The CM has asked the district deputy commissioners to rescue the flood-affected people and provide them food and health facilities. At the same time, Ambala-Jalandhar, Ambala-Hisar, Ambala-Chandigarh, Ambala-Saharanpur, Ambala-Yamunanagar National Highway, Ambala-Panchkula via Barwala Highway were closed.
