NIA Special Court: A special NIA court in Kerala sentenced three of the six convicts to life imprisonment in the sensational 2010 case in which a college professor’s hand was chopped off.
A special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday (July 12) convicted six people in the sensational case of chopping off of hands of alleged PFI members in 2010 as part of the second phase of the trial. The court acquitted five others.
According to news agency PTI, Professor TJ Joseph’s right hand was chopped off in 2010 by alleged activists of the banned Islamic organization Popular Front of India (PFI). Regarding the incident, Professor Joseph says that this incident has had an impact on his life. He told that he lost his job a few days after the attack, as a result of which his wife committed suicide.

After the court’s verdict, he told reporters, “In any fight there is a loss. Even if he is the winner, like me… But I will keep fighting.” In the first phase of the hearing, 13 people were booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) as well as the Explosive Substances Act and the Indian Penal Code.
