MK Stalin On Uniform Civil Code: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has clarified his stand on this issue amid the ongoing debate over the Uniform Civil Code. Stalin has written a letter to the Law Commission on Friday (July 13) strongly opposing the UCC. The Chief Minister said that any attempt to implement the Uniform Code can be seen as interference in religious matters from the Center. Which is a worrying thing.
DMK Chief Stalin said that any attempt to implement the UCC is an attempt to destroy the religious and cultural identity of minorities including tribals. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has written a letter to the Law Commission opposing the Uniform Civil Code.
What did MK Stalin say?
MK Stalin told the Law Commission Chairman that the UCC has the potential to create deep divisions and social unrest among religious communities. DMK is constantly opposing the Uniform Civil Code.
Earlier, DMK general secretary Durai Murugan had said that before a uniform civil code for all religions, we need a uniform caste code to end caste discrimination and atrocities. BJP’s obsession of one nation, one language, one culture is now turning into a civil code.
AIADMK is also against UCC
The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), an ally of the BJP in Tamil Nadu, has also maintained its stand that it does not support the UCC. To which the state unit of the BJP had said that they hoped that the AIADMK would change its position and all parties could come together to enact the UCC.
