Bird flu can easily infect humans, UN agencies warn


Bird flu: Amid the outbreak of avian flu spreading globally, three agencies of the United Nations have issued warnings of the spread of the virus. Agencies have told that bird flu can infect humans more easily. Due to which concern has increased globally.

UN agencies urged all countries to strengthen disease surveillance and improve sanitation in poultry farms. The virus has emerged among wild birds as a new and highly contagious H5N1 strain of bird flu that has spread to new geographic areas. Due to the virus, the fear of a new epidemic among humans has increased.

People infected in six cases

Giving information, the World Health Organization (WHO) said that there are only six cases in which people were in close contact with virus-infected birds and most of those birds had mild symptoms.

The disease is spreading to new geographical areas

“There has been a major recent change in the ecology and epidemiology of avian influenza, which is of increasing concern globally as the disease spreads to new geographic regions,” said Dr. Gregorio Torres, WOAH Head of Science . Not only this, many wild birds have also died due to this disease and there has been an alarming increase in the cases of mammals.

Whereas the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the World Animal Health Organization said that countries should work together in all areas.

Dr. Sylvie Briand, Director of Epidemics and Epidemic Preparedness and Prevention at WHO, said, “We encourage all countries to increase their capacity to monitor these viruses and trace any human cases.
