Torrential rains and water logging affect rail travel, more than 700 trains canceled in a week

Train Cancellations: Due to heavy rains, water logging has affected rail travel in many states of the country. Between July 7 and July 15, 300 mail and express trains and 406 passenger trains have been canceled across the country. Railways informed that 600 mail-express trains and 500 passenger trains have been affected due to water-logging.

The northwestern states of the country, especially Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, have received heavy rains for three consecutive days since July 8. Due to the torrential rains, all the rivers and drains have overflowed, due to which the movement of these states has become difficult and the rail-road infrastructure has suffered huge damage. Due to this, the supply of essential commodities has also been disrupted in these states.

Northern Railway has canceled 300 mail and express trains. 100 trains have already had to be stopped. Along with this, 191 trains have been diverted. The distance of 67 trains has been reduced. Due to water logging, Northern Railway has had to cancel 406 passenger trains. 28 trains have been diverted, 56 trains had to be short-originated and 54 trains had to be short-terminated.

Northern Railway issued a press release saying that due to heavy rains and waterlogging on Sirhind-Nangal Dam, Chandigarh-Sanehwal and Saharanpur-Ambala Cantt section on Ambala Division of Northern Railway, trains will be temporarily cancelled/diverted/short terminated.
